Paintings inspired from walks

Raven

These latest two paintings are inspired by our latest walks, we saw this raven up on Dove Crag when we did the Fairfield Horseshoe in the Lake District, the original photo can be found here.  I love ravens, they are always around when we're up in the mountains and it was a real thrill for us to have them land so close and pinch our crumbs!

Mane Attraction

The painting above you may recognise from the photo on my last post.  We came across this gorgeous Welsh mountain pony on the slopes of Yr Orsedd on our extremely wintry walk into the mountains last Friday.  The ponies were sensible and kept low down, out of the bitter wind and snow,  unlike us!  Such a little poser I had to paint it!  I kept it simple though as I find white animals a bit difficult to paint! You can find more photos of these lovely ponies we saw on Friday on Gary's wildlife photography blog.

And while you're here why not pop over to read about our latest walks on Two Pairs of Boots

Hope you're all having a wonderful time out there, whatever you're doing, I look forward to your comments as always

  1. Both paintings are fabulous! So a Welsh pony, not a Carnnedau?

  2. Two more crackers. I love the way you've handled the variation in the plumage and hair. The subtle colour shifts you have created speak of close observation and technical skill.

  3. Sharon - I have been so remiss in visiting - just been busier than usual. Your raven is lovely and your pony is outstanding. Love the way you caught the head. Hope you are surviving the winter. I have been feeding the birds and enjoying them as well. Take care.

    1. Debbie never any need to justify why you haven't popped by - I know how busy life is and as much as I enjoy keeping up to date with fellow bloggers, it's very time consuming and easy to miss posts especially if you follow a fair few as I do! It's always a pleasure to hear from you when you do visit and thank you for your lovely comments :-) I've been putting food out for my birds but not getting many in the garden recently - not sure why!

  5. Gorgeous paintings. The Raven has that slightly sly look, you have given him character. The horse is superb, I have tried to paint a white camargue horse, what a nightmare, I gave up, so admire even more your painting of this lovely white horse. Don't know how you find time to paint!!!

  14. Well the ravens and crows are always a favorite of mine and you've captured this one so well - a little touch of violet showing gives him more life - I drooled over Gary's photos of these on your last "walk" and thought about asking permission to paint one - but maybe another time. Love the hairy horse, too!

  15. Sharon, really like how you handled the feathers on the Raven, such intelligent birds, I wonder what they really think about us. Also like your choice for added color in the white pony and the way the mane falls adds alot to the composition. As you know I have already drawn one of Gary's photos and have just finished a large project for me, so probably off to PMP to find the next victim. Will have to check out your other site. Now I think I understand how you were there the day he took the tiger picture. Envy your outdoor life and look forward to reading back through your blog.

  16. The Pony is a beauty, but you've really captured the essence of the Raven.
