Gary's Garden Visitor


I'm very jealous that Gary gets these gorgeous birds in his garden - he's lucky enough to live next to open fields whereas I'm right next to the town centre.  He posted this photo on his blog yesterday having taken the photo yesterday morning and asked me to paint one so I did - the inspiration for the tree limb was taken from an artist I came across online called Lucy Newton who's artwork I really admire so I can't take credit for that - I quite like the effect and it was certainly fun to do but as always I'm interested to know what you think.

      it's a partnership that works well Trevor - I've got access to all his fab photos which is great and he puts in requests for me to paint things too

    Fab Sharon. Liking the technique on the trunk too. Is it ink or just very fine brushwork in indigo? I'm so jealous of you two being able to see all this gorgeous wildlife in your back gardens... :-)

      Hi Laura - it was a bit of an experiment - the fine brushwork is paynes grey (I know you either love it or hate it but I love it!) with a rigger - think I'm going to try this sort of thing again as quite like it

    Now that I know it is a tree limb, I think it is spectacularly done, Sharon. I don't know why I didn't see it right off the bat. The bird too is delightful.

    Very nicely painted this little guy. I love the loose, painterly way of doing the tree-branch. You are very lucky, Sharon, to have these fantastic photos at your disposal to paint. And you are doing a great job!
