Can you tell what it is yet?

Yes I know ...... it's a bird! I was hoping to finish this tonight after starting it late last night but my daughter has invaded my art room to do her homework! ... so it will have to wait til tomorrow now .... in the meantime though ... can you tell what type of garden bird it is from what I've painted so far ... I'm nearly finished with painting the garden birds -  only a couple more to do unless I get any newcomers arriving - I'd love to see some long tailed tits and Gary assures me that I will in time - and a bullfinch and woodpecker would be nice although unlikely I think where I live -  the elusive sparrowhawk is still keeping a low profile.

I was appalled yesterday when my daughter rang me when she got home from school upset after witnessing some school boys shooting at starlings with a bb gun - why oh why do some kids (and adults) get their kicks from doing that sort of thing -  I just don't get it and never will.

I had a break from painting birds at the weekend to finish a pet portrait and really hoping the owners like it, it's good to get the drawing practice as I tend to do much more painting than drawing these days...

and last but not least I'd like to introduce you to another garden visitor - not a bird this time but an acrobatic grey squirrel - not as clever as Andrew's squirrel from Rambles with a camera fame as he hasn't managed to destroy any feeders yet or get at any nuts but he keeps popping over to have a go.

Acrobatic squirrel

Hope you're all having a wonderful week whatever you're doing, til next time bloggers!

  2. Beautiful portrait of the dog, Sharon, I'm sure the owners will be thrilled! And I am not good at guessing birdnames.... a sparrow?

    1. Hi Judy and thank you - I'm afraid it's not a sparrow, feel a bit mean now asking as it's probably not that easy!

  4. Dear Sharon - I am not sure yet what bird you are painting but looking through some of your other posts I have to say your birds are all awesome. I too love watching them and trying my hand at painting them. They are such lovely creatures. The drawing of the dog is so good. Thanks for sharing.

  5. ...I love all of your paintings and drawings! They are so beautiful and sensitive. I love to paint and draw birds too.....but right now, I've been doing more drawing than painting. I need to flip that--or maybe just even it out!

    1. Hi Kelly - I've been the opposite doing more painting than drawing which I think I should do more of or like you say even it out!

  6. First, your paintings continue to impress Sharon....keep up the good work.

Second, sorry to hear about your daughter naturally upset at seeing the birds being shot at by morons with guns.

Third, I decided to leave out my guess at your 'so far' bird painting as I'm thrown with the hint of yellow on its breast, but go on then, I otherwise would gave suggested....Dunnock.

  7. I want to let you know Sharon that your blog is a pleasure for the art, gorgeous photos and the the written word. I appreciate the time you put into it.
Your beautiful drawing of the dog stopped my breath. When you said the art bug is a relatively new event in your life - please tell me you have had some training or art background somewhere along the line? Your ability to "see" is perfect.

    1. Julie thank you so much for your uplifting comments, and no I've not had any art training, only what I did at school many years ago, I can't believe now it's taken me so long to discover it again, I can't imagine it not being part of my life now!

    Funny shot of the squirrel.
Today I post a new little blog of a painting that someone made from my photo of a tiger. It's so pretty of her that I'm really proud of it.

  9. Hola Sharon. Sonia.

  12. I like so much the dog portrait! The eyes, the way he looks, it's so typical! Seems perfect to me, hopefully the owners think so too. And squirrels with bird feeders... they are total bandits, managing to get to the seeds in the most acrobatic ways. So much fun to observe!
