Life is for living!

It's definitely been a week to remember - or one I'd rather forget!  The week started off very nicely with a trip to Blackpool Zoo - lovely sunny day, walking around the zoo without a care in the world.  Gary mentioned being tired on the way home but thought nothing of it - in the middle of the night he woke up with severe chest pains. After ringing the doctor, we were advised to call an ambulance and he was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack - in A&E he fell into unconsciousness - I've never seen so many people react so swiftly - the crash team were amazing and brought him back round but it was such a shock - after many many tests it was finally confirmed that he hadn't had a heart attack but has an infection in his heart.  He's now home and resting but it certainly confirms to us a philosophy that we both share anyway - life is for living, do what you love and love what you do because you just don't know what's round the corner.  So once he's fit and well again we'll be back up those hills, exploring the nature and wildlife around us and relishing time with family and friends.

When I got home from the hospital I came across a great blog post shared by Diana Wallace who is a fellow art nut!  Her post struck a chord because we do so often make a big deal out of things that in the whole scheme of things really don't deserve the effort, I do it myself sometimes - we make mountains out of molehills for no reason   Take a read - it makes sense! What happened to Gary of course was a big deal but thank goodness it turned out to not be as serious as initially feared and he'll be right as rain in no time!

Luckily he enjoys watching me paint so in between telling him off for doing too much I'm  getting the brushes out.  This was painted as a commission for a work colleague and is a gift for her father who owns the two cats.

So, fellow bloggers, hopefully you're all having a great day with no nasty shocks and enjoying this wonderful gift of life we have!

  3. Dear Sharon - will be looking up for Gary - so glad it wasn't a heart attack. You are so right about not taking life for granted...we are such vulnerable creatures and anything can happen in a moment's time.

On a cheerier note - love those kitties and I am sure your client will adore them too. Take care of you and Gary as well.

  4. So good to hear that Gary is now doing fine Sharon.... life is so precious and it is so true we shouldn't sweat the small stuff and need to choose our battles. I thought Diane's blog was thought provoking and inspiring... I read it when you posted it on fb and had a suspicion there might have been something wrong....didn't expect this though!!! Every sympathy with you both, I know what health scares are like and am sure you will continue to seize the day after Gary's!!!

Lovely portrait btw.... haven't got any further with mine, might post as a WIP...

  6. Sorry to hear of Garys health scare and thank goodness it was diagnosed quickly and was not a heart attack. My husband had one at only 49 and it was very scary. Your commission of the cats should be well received. Unfortunately I am so scared of them that I cannot enough bring myself to paint them - so hope no one asks. Dogs OK, Cats oh no!

  7. Glad to hear that your story ended on a positive note. When we are reminded of our mortality it does have a way of reminding us to appreciate life while we have the chance. Love the cats-the one on the right looks like ours.

  13. My significant other and I had our first major health problems in the last year: I was amazed by how much it shook my faith in life, how fragile I felt ... Along with good health, confidence and faith return, bit by bit. I am glad Gary is doing well.
Your cat portraits are lovely ... I have a black cat who I can never paint! I will have to study how you did it.

We need to always remember the priorities in our lives. Without health and each other we haven't got much .
