Owl Eyes a year on

Owl Eyes
by Sharon Whitley the rambling artist

Well as promised, I've had a go at one of the photos that Gary took of the Eagle Owl from Greenacres on Sunday, a more detailed version than the quick watercolour sketch I did last year.  I didn't really have a plan with this - just started with the eyes as I always do which brings the subject to life for me and then worked my way from there.  I took a few WIPs as I went along

  2. Amazing - I had no idea an owl's eyes could be like this You did a wonderful job because they are looking right at me.
I really like, "I am an artist, I am not a camera," quote in your previous blog.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

    1. Thank you so much Judy. They are beautiful birds with the strangest hypnotic eyes, I'd never been so close to one as I had on Sunday - glad you enjoyed the quote from Roy Simmons, I's still chanting it to myself in the mirror lol!

  3. Love to see work emerge like this - it's really interesting

The eyes look so accusingly at you, Sharon. As the eyes appear they ask, "What do you think you're doing? What is it you want?"

Yes I like your artist/camera quote. I took my quote from my hero Axel Haig,: "Romantic truth not photographic realism"

    1. Glad you enjoyed the WIPs - I find them really interesting too - even looking back on my own! The owl that I painted from was looking at us in exactly that way - as if to say 'what do you think you're doing?' He wouldn't take his eyes off us so really pleased that is the impression you get, as that is what I was aiming for! That's another great quote from Axel Haig - will have to look him up, thanks for dropping by John
