Crib Goch

Crib Goch Ridge
by Sharon Whitley the rambling artist

Crib Goch ridge!  which I'll be walking tomorrow if the weather behaves itself!  -  as part of the Snowdon Horseshoe along with Gary and some brill walking friends.  It's an amazing place which I would definitely recommend but only if you've got a head for heights as it's pretty much a knife edge ridge with rather large drops on either side and once you're on it there's no getting off, you're pretty much committed!

If only the weather could be as good as it was the first time I crossed this ridge....

and not like this when I've done it since .......

clinging on for dear life!

Hmmm I think I know which is the more likely ...... does the weather not know it's August? just a few days rain and wind free would be nice !

I posted one of my photos of Crib Goch to the Paint my Photo website and was thrilled that 3 different artists chose to paint it ..... I'd like to share their wonderful paintings with you here.  All paintings are different but I love them all - they've all captured the majesty of this place.

The first is by Dilip Bhalero, one of my favourite artists from Paint my Photo  - I'm always in awe of his artwork and feel privileged that he has chosen a few of my photos to paint.   Here is his version...... I love the colours he's used.....

The second interpretation is by Malcolm Coils an amazing artist from Durham whose work I admire a lot - his paintings include stunning Lake District landscapes and I was honoured that he chose my photo to paint.

And last but certainly not least is Roy Simmons's fearless approach - just look at the light he's captured here and the moody atmosphere - just brilliant!  Roy Simmons is the founder of Paint my Photo and a lovely guy!

I finally got round to painting my version last month which you can see at the top of this post.

Before I end my rambling post I'd like to thank all of you who have been leaving such lovely comments on my blog since I started it about 6 weeks ago. It really does mean a lot to me and I so appreciate you taking the time to read my ramblings and look at my paintings.  I've enjoyed browsing through the wonderful blog sites I've discovered since I started, whether they be artists, photographers, walkers, I enjoy them all and thank you for sharing.   I probably won't be posting over the next few days as we're off to Snowdonia tomorrow for the week (yippeeeee!!!!)  camping most nights (if the weather behaves itself!!!) - and I'm taking my sketchpad with me too so hopefully some artwork to show you when I get back and plenty of photos of course - that's if I survive Crib Goch tomorrow (eek!!)

  2. Enjoyable post showing your love of the mountains and the inspiration that they are to you and other artists. A nice selection of images. If I could just suggest that your painting might have a greater depth if there were a few more hard edges in the foreground.

  13. What a fun life you lead! To be able to see all those gorgeous scenes and then paint equally gorgeous paintings! I love the painting that you did of Crib Goch better than the other people's. I could tell that you were actually there and had made a connection with the ethereal quality of the place. I look forward to seeing more!
