Art fit for a Spa

I don't know about you other arty bloggers out there but I often have doubts in my abilities as an artist - I struggle to even use that word - artist - yes I know I've called myself The Rambling Artist and all that but that's because I liked how it incorporates the art and the hiking and I wanted a catchy blog name - in fact it wasn't even my idea but an online friend who thought of it.  We all like to get good comments about our work and I've had some really encouraging and complimentary comments - but I still look at other artist's work and sigh - oh if only I could paint like that!    Anyway the point of this rambling post is that this week I've had a bit of a confidence boost as five - yes FIVE of my paintings have been selected to be used for one off prints in a hotel/spa outside London, with three paintings being used for 2 prints.  They said they liked the simplicity of my work - well hey ho I'll carry on keeping things simple then, that works for me!  I went through a tulip phase a few months back where I was had a thing about painting simple tulips and did quite a few of them, just studies and a more detailed one in acrylics, well I'm so glad I did because 3 of them will soon be on display in a London spa.

and my two magpies which I have to admit I'm quite fond of have also been chosen

It's nice to think of these two spreading their symbol of joy to visitors of the spa....

Til next time fellow bloggers... comments welcome as always

  1. Oh my, Sharon, so exciting news!! Very well deserved!!! Be proud, you are a great artist!
I know what you mean though, I never refer to myself as an artist -only, maybe when I want to be self-sarcastic :) and I always-always admire other people's art, but am never satisfied with mine.
    Congratulations,
    Hugs

  2. Congratulations, Sharon! That is exciting news. You are a wonderful artist, make no mistake! I know exactly how you feel. I just recently started getting back into art. I took a 12 year break. And part of that break was caused by my insecurities getting in the way. I wasn't confident I would "make it" as an artist so I gave up. It wasn't until recently (about 8 months ago), after taking a 2-hour art class on watercolor, that I was reminded of how much I love painting. Ever since, I've been obsessed...and I don't care as much now as I did then about "making it". I just do it now for fun and hope to improve with every painting. Best wishes!

    1. Heather I think it definitely helps when you take pressure off yourself to 'make it' - the most important thing is to enjoy what we do, paint for the love of it - anything else is a bonus! It's so good to hear you are back into it again, enjoy every minute xx

  5. I think we're all insecure folk but that is what's so nice about forums and Blogs where we can interact with other likeminded people - it can be a lonely existence otherwise and we can't trust the views of our nearest and dearest in case they are biased LOL

I love all these pictures ... the magpies especially. Yes, one for sorrow wouldn't have been a good image ... but two for joy is so right!!

    1. That's exactly why I painted a second magpie Sue - I'm quite fond of the magpies so I'm particularly pleased that they will be used, my family are actually the most critical of everyone and don't mind telling me when they don't like something lol!

  8. OH Sharon, I am so excited for you! This really is a boost you are worthy of. I can so identify with the insecurities of applying the word "artist" to self... but I totally think of yo as a full-blown Artist with a capital A!

  9. Well done you. As to artist or not... just be you as that is where the art comes from. A lot of us have to work hard at this but with you it comes naturally. That's what makes you an Artist with a capital 'A'.

    1. Oh John that's such a lovely thing to say, thank you so much, we are all who we are and we all paint in our own way so maybe we should all begin to appreciate our own way of painting more and stop comparing ourselves to everyone else!
